Hippie Fest 2009

Big FUN at Hippie Fest 2009 at "The Fred" in Peachtree City. Sure I could have paid to see Sir Paul McCartney from a distance, but I chose to see "The Turtles" up close and personal. Security removed me moments after this photo was snapped. That's Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman. Also at Hippie Fest: Brewer & Shipley ... Joey Molland of Badfinger ... Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels ... and Chuck Negron of Three Dog Night.

My lovely wife Janet pulled out her old bell-bottom jeans for the occasion.

Happy 21st Mere!

Our youngest daughter turned 21 on Friday and we took her to the "Temptations" concert at Chastain where she had herself an adult beverage. Whooo-hooo!

Rain Rain

Rain, Rain, what a pain …
On the weekend, quite insane …
Come back Monday when I’m down …
Don’t matter then if I drown …
The sun is what we want to see …
Make it so, let it be …
Then again, the drought is gone …
Cost me nothing for my lawn …
Rain, Rain, do your thing …
I am happy for what you bring.

Obama's Health Plan?

Little known proposals in the Obama Health Plan ...
(Thanks to Bill for finding this. I think.)

Tuesday, July 28, 2009

Brady (our Welsh Corgi) is out of surgery at the Vets office. Clean teeth, and the fatty tumor has been removed. He's doing great. Will pick him up later. I've already scheduled to have the fatty tumor around my waist removed. Not looking forward to recovery in the metal cage though. On the plus side, I guess it will get me ready for the new Obama health plan.

Tank you berry much ...

Spent most of the day on the phone with various Dell reps who seemed just as interested in extending the warranty as fixing my daughter's computer. Finally, went to Costco and bought a different brand computer. Stopped on the way home for some Lamb Curry. Don't know why I was craving that?

Walking is GOOD for you!

Since the middle of April, I've dropped ten pounds by upping my walking routine to 6 days a week.  A little over three miles each time out.  (OK, I am watching what I eat too!)  I feel GREAT.

Never Forget

Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend but NEVER FORGET why we are free to enjoy long weekends.

We gave away a daughter that day

A glass we raised to toast

We danced and laughed the night away

We were the perfect hosts

But when the guests departed

And silence filled the room

I thanked my lucky stars

For years ago I was your groom

Happy Anniversary Janet

I love you more each day

New "Star Trek" Movie

Just got back from a sneak preview of the new "Star Trek" movie. Two Vulcan Ears UP! Very well done. Reminds me of the old TV series but with much, much better effects. This movie should ensure that the franchise will "live long and prosper."

Product Slogans

I was thinking.  (I know.  I don't do that too often.) Anyway, I was thinking ... what products out there would fit perfectly with another product's slogan?  For example:  What if Viagra used the slogan for FedEx:

Viagra ... "When it absolutely, positively has to be there overnight."

I think that would work!

Any other ideas?

Tax Notice!

Income taxes are normally due on April 15th unless that date falls on a Saturday or Sunday, in which case they are due on Monday the 16th or 17th. However, I have been told that rule has recently been changed for this and for the next 4 years. Tax payments WILL NOT BE DUE UNTIL YOU ARE NOMINATED TO A CABINET POSITION. Please check with your Tax adviser to confirm.

(Thanks to my accountant Bill Naivar)

YES! I think this is FUNNY!

High School Reunion

Just found out about my 40th High School Reuion later this year. Boy, that sure opened the floodgates to a ton of memories. Ok, maybe not floodgate … but at least a trickle. (Which I will ask my doctor about next week during my annual physical.)

I remember our senior year going to Ottawa to see the Bulldogs play the Pirates for the Regional Championship basketball game. We trailed the entire contest until Gary Masley made a lay-up at the buzzer for the win! As we headed back to our car … we were jumped by a group of Ottawa students. I remember getting poked in the eye and screaming like a little girl who had her favorite Barbie run over by a lawn mower. That’s when Mike Cassidy stepped forward to face the bullies. Also about that time a really old couple came by. (I mean really old, probably in their 50’s) The Ottawa no-good-nicks scattered. I was so proud of Mike Cassidy for standing up to those guys that I wanted to hug him ... but back in those days that might have sent the wrong signal. That was well before the Manly Hug was accepted by society. So Mike … when I see you at the reunion … get ready for a really firm … handshake. Cause I’m still uncomfortable the whole men hugging each thing. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Stimulus Plan explained ...

Three contractors are bidding to fix a broken fence at the White House.  One is from Chicago, another is from Tennessee, and the third is from Georgia.  All three go with a White House official to examine the fence.  The Georgia contractor takes out a tape measure and does some measuring, then works some figures with a pencil.  "Well," he says, "I figure the job will run about $900: $400 for materials, $400 for my crew and $100 profit for me."  The Tennessee contractor also does some measuring and figuring, then says, "I can do this job for $700: $300 for materials, $300 for my crew and $100 profit for me."  The Chicago contractor doesn't measure or figure, but leans over to the White House official and whispers, "$2,700."  The official, incredulous, says, "You didn't even measure like the other guys!  How did you come up with such a high figure?"  The Chicago contractor whispers back, "$1000 for me, $1000 for you, and we hire the guy from Tennessee to fix the fence."  "Done!" replies the government official.  And that, my friends, is how the new stimulus plan will work.

Found this weird looking ice in my birdbath this morning. Sorta looks like the fickle finger of fate. How does something like this form? Any ideas? I didn't see a twig or anything that the ice could have formed around. It's a mystery.
