08.31.2021: With people beginning to hoard toilet paper again, we placed two incredibly vicious guard dogs close to our supply.

08.29.2021: Okay, so I stumbled upon this "kill" today while hiking #kennesawmountainnbp. Something buzzed by my head and I saw it pounce on a very unlucky yellow jacket on the side of a tree. The "creature" then carried the yellow jacket to a small branch of a nearby tree where it appeared to enjoy lunch. Two questions. Does anyone know what type of "creature" this is? And, does this foreshadow bad luck for the Georgia Tech football team?

UPDATE: Thanks to Jason Lesley and John Cown, the creature has been identified as a Robber Fly or Promachus.

You've got a friend in me"

08.25.2021: To hummingbirds, these flowers are like megaphones shouting, "Time to eat! Come and get it!"

08.22.2021: Sometimes when hiking through the woods, I’ll pick up a colorful leaf and use it to mark my path. I do this for two reasons. One: I’m old and do not want to get lost. Two: I’m hoping someone young will see it, take a photo of it, and share it on social media saying something like … “You won’t believe what I saw while hiking. A leaf fell from a tree and landed standing up on top of a broken tree stump. What are the odds?”

08.17.2021: A favorite destination for birds attending conventions in Atlanta is a popular strip club where they flock to see "Scarlett Delight" and her amazing pole dancing routines. Tuesday night Scarlett wowed the crowd with a very seductive dance to "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head." Said one audience member, "I normally don't fly south until the winter, but when I heard that Scarlett would be performing, I caught the first jet stream heading toward Georgia."

08.16.2021: Excitement in the back yard of Stately Spiff Manor today. Vicious hummingbird fight. One poor bird appeared down for the count when we rushed out to save it. Janet scooped up the stunned and injured hummingbird, held it ever so gently, lightly rubbed it's head and after a minute or so, the hummingbird flew away. Only to be spotted several minutes later at our feeder.

08.15.2021: This spider in our back yard is a source of entertainment. Surprised a bird hasn't chowed down on it. The web has been destroyed three times, and reconstructed the very next day. Sounds like a government contract to me. Today I got a bit closer to get a good look at it.

7.31.2021: It's so hot. How hot is it? So hot that I've been searching for Dragonflies hoping I could feel the breeze from their wings. But, apparently, it's too hot for this one to flap his wings. Made for a good photo though.

7.30.2021: We may have a Peeping Tom in our neighborhood. Caught this guy looking in our window. Luckily I have a camera in every room of the house just for moments like this. (Not really.)
