7.29.2021: Allatoona Pass Osprey. Never so happy that I did not wear my shirt with fish prints on it.

7.28.2021: Jenny is a bit sad that she doesn't own a pair of heart-shaped sunglasses. But, come on, who would want to hide those beautiful eyes? Just sayin'. (Thanks, Janet, for staging this photo.)

7.25.2021: Two granddaughters spent the night with us. They are cousins and best of friends. Of course, a nature walk was on the agenda. Both Aubree and Lily Sue had a great time. Super Gigi made us all a most excellent pancake breakfast and then we all went on a short nature walk. Aubree and Lily ended up sharing my dad's hand-carved walking stick which may be over 100 years old.

7.24.2021: So, not my greatest hummingbird photo ... BUT ... an interesting angle. I plopped myself on the ground, flat on my back, and waited until this hummingbird darted towards the feeder. Equipment used: Nikon Z6, 24-70mm zoom lens, and a First Alert necklace so that the EMT crew could find me and help me back up.

7.17.2021: Two more dead flies this week and I qualify as an “ACE.” Four more dead flies this week and I’ll be headed to Japan on the US Olympic Fly Swatting team. Wish me luck.

7.13.2021: Instead of watching the MLB All-Star game tonight, I'll be viewing "The Sandlot" and imagining that I was playing with that amazing team.

7.11.2021: "8...9...10...ready or not, here I come!" Today I played Hide-N-Seek with a fawn. I don't mean to brag, but ... I kicked her butt in two straight games. #kennesawmountainnbp

7.8.2021: I'm not man enough (or crazy or drunk enough) to "Run with the Bulls" ... but, I'll "Run with the Fawns" every chance I get.

7.7.2021: Thanks to Carolyn, Mikel, Madi for another wonderful experience at Millstone Stables. This time, Aubree got to experience the fun including helping Madi squeegee off one of the horses.

Thanks to Carolyn, Mikel, Madi for another wonderful experience at Millstone Stables. Big fun watching Madi training a horse to jump.

7.2.2021: Can't decide between reading a good book or visiting Kennesaw Mountain? Why not do both at the same time?

6.26.2021: This weekend marks the 157th Anniversary of the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain.
Sherman's troops bombarded the Confederate positions at nine o'clock on the morning of June 27, 1864 and then advanced along the base of Kennesaw Mountain. The Confederates easily repulsed this diversionary attack. Meanwhile, rough terrain and a stubborn defense stymied the Union assault at Pigeon Hill, which sputtered out after a couple of hours. At Cheatham Hill, the heaviest fighting occurred along a salient stretch in the Confederate line dubbed "Dead Angle" by Confederate defenders. Union troops made a desperate effort to storm the Confederate trenches. However, as elsewhere, the rough terrain and intense Confederate fire combined to defeat the Union army. Within hours, the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain was over. Union casualties numbered some 3,000 men while the Confederates lost 1,000, making it one of the bloodiest single days in the campaign for Atlanta.

6.25.2021: Okay, can anyone identify this creature I spotted at #kennesawmountainnbp today. Until I hear back, I will just call it "Scarybeehairybuttocks"

6.23.2021: The young bucks at #KennesawMountainNBP are usually a bit more skittish than the older does. However, today I noticed this dude grazing about 25-30 yards off the trail. He appeared to be heading my direction, so I didn’t make any quick moves (like at my age I could make any quick moves even if I wanted to.) It took about 10 minutes or so but he finally worked his way down to within’ five or six feet of me. After a couple of minutes grazing in front of me, he slowly walked away. Almost as slow as I walk when I’m hiking. (Which is pretty darn slow.) Neat experience, for sure.

I wish I had a buck for every time a deer gave me the old "what the heck are you doing taking my photo" look while I was hiking in Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park.
